James Furlow
Tenor, Alto, Soprano, & Digital Saxophones
James performed professionally for over 20 years in the Philadelphia and New York region before relocating to Saint Augustine in 2017. During this time he founded and performed with the Fast Lane Jazz Quartet (traditional jazz), Philayva (a Philly take on smooth jazz and R&B), and performed regularly with various jazz, club/dance, blues, and elite wedding and event bands.
James regularly performed at high profile black tie events hosted and attended by, notably, the US Attorney General, the New York Jets football team, a US Senator, and a Word Series Champion Philadelphia Phillies baseball legend.
James’s Philadelphia bands included musicians who have toured, performed, or recorded with Chubby Checker, Dave Grohl, Patti Labelle, Sister Sledge, the US Navy Jazz Band, and in Disney’s production of the Lion King - among many others.
Recently, during a visit to Philadelphia, James had the opportunity to perform and trade solos with legendary band leader and former lead trumpet player of both the Stan Kenton and Clark Terry big band, Mike Vax.
Since moving to St Augustine in 2017, James has mostly played and rehearsed independently, performing occasionally with local classic rock/horn bands and indie/folk groups. But is eager to perform more regularly once again.
He is excited to have found polished professional musicians who share his dedication to making great music and is looking forward to performing with them in Jacksonville and Saint Augustine.
